An interactive data visualisation tool for smarter holidaying

Transforming the Post Office’s annual City Costs Barometer into an interactive, data visualisation tool.

The Post Office promotes its Travel Money service through the annual City Costs Barometer — a report comparing the cost of everyday items across city holiday destinations. To increase engagement and awareness, we set out to create an intuitive, visually compelling way for users to explore and compare these costs directly on the website.

Process

We began by researching best-in-class data visualisations to ensure the design was both functional and visually striking. From there we wireframed, designed and prototyped an interactive solution that we believed would make comparing city costs quick and easy.

Following user testing, we refined the interface to further improve usability. The final solution featured a custom-built animation tool embedded seamlessly into the Post Office’s website. To ensure flexibility, we developed a bespoke backend tool allowing administrators to update products and costs for each city whenever needed.

Results

The interactive data visualisation was highly engaging and well received by the client, their content agency and users. The project elevated the City Costs Barometer, reinforcing the Post Office’s position in travel money services.
